Top 10 Android 7.0 Nougat Features

 Android, Review     1 comment

Finally google wrapping up the latest version of Android (7.0 or Nougat). There are a lot improvement over Marshmallow and some handy feature. I will explain my favorite top ten feature here:

  1. Multi-windows
Samsung had this option for many years and right now it come to stock android. If you  are new to this it's a feature that you can split the screen and use 2 apps side by side
  2. Switch between app
On Nougat you can switch to previous app by double tap the recent button on the navigation bar
  3. Bundled Notification
Notification is now bundled if there are many notifications from the same app.
  4. Quick Reply
You can also reply directly from the notification card.
  5. New Quick Setting
Quick setting now can be customize and easier to toggle
  6.  Doze on the Go
With Android Marshmallow introduced the doze mode but it only activate when your device sitting still for a long period of time, For instance when you are sleep at night and keep your phone on a desk but with Nougat doze will activate whenever you are not using the device to save more battery life.
  7. Data saverCan be toggle to restrict app from using background data but the foreground app can still be use. This feature will save you some data plan and also can save some of your battery.
  8. New emojiYes I know most people love emoji and in Nougat there are over 1500 emoji now. If you are an emoji lover you will be happy about it.
  9. DaydreamA platform for high quality mobile virtual reality. Support only with Daydream-ready phone.
  10. Display size
Display density can be customize. You can change font size, icon size and the experience.

Is the Iris Scanner Worth It?

 2cents, Android, Windows     No comments

Privacy and security is what mobile company focus on now a day and they got a pretty interest features for unlock their devices. First the finger print scanner which is made famous by the iPhone 5s and every major smartphone adopt that technology but Microsoft approach the different way by announcing the Windows hello feature that authenticate your identity with your eye balls as we seen the feature work on the Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL. The iris scanner use the infrared light to scan your eyes print and it work in any lighting condition

Windows Hello on Lumia

And now the Galaxy Note 7 also adopt this technology for the first time in their Galaxy line. So the question is that is it worth it to have an iris scanner for your phone?

Galaxy Note 7 Scanning Iris

To answer that question I have to say sure it's nice to have that feature but it is a must? no. Because the technology is not as mature as fingerprint scanner and some time it's clumsy to hold your phone up to your eyes to scan it. With fingerprint reader you can unlock your phone at the time you pick it up or take it out of your pocket (eg. Nexus 6P) without having to look at the scanner. But when your thumb is wet or you're wearing gloves in a cold day the Iris scanner will come very handy in those situation.

For the conclusion, I think the iris scanner is optional as it is now and having to choose with fingerprint sensor I would choose fingerprint sensor over it but thing might change it the future when the iris scanner is more mature and I'm waiting to see how great it is.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Impression!

 Android, Review     No comments

Another year another Galaxy Note but this year Samsung decide to skip the name from Galaxy Note 5 to Galaxy Note 7 just like Microsoft Skip from Windows 8 to Windows 10. So when it comes to the Galaxy Note series it's mean that everything is superior from another android phone even from their sibling the Galaxy S7/edge.

Design

This year Galaxy Note is curvier and it got the dual-curved display that not as big as the edge on the Galaxy S7 Edge, It cured on both front and back that make it so balanced and easy to hold and it almost look like a bezeless phone that we used to dream of.  On the top it got the Sim + microSD slot, on one side it got the power button and the other side it got the volume button and on the bottom it the headphone jack, USB type-C and SPen slot (You can't reverse it this time). They also come in 4 colors Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx.
Feature

This year Galaxy Note 7 implement a new security feature by using the Iris Scanner, you can use it to unlock your phone, to login to a website and even to keep your data private such as photos, videos, notes or other document files. S Pen also improve over the last year by increasing the sensitivity level from 2056 to 4096 also now you can use it under water because the Galaxy Note 7 is rating IP68 water and dust resistant!

Camera

You just can't skip the camera because now most of you now judge the phone by it camera performance. Because of this year Camera on the Note 7 improve again by using the 12 MP, f/1.7 with OIS so it will be a good low-light performance just like the S7. On the front, if you care, it got 5 MP, f/1.7 for you selfie lover.

Performance

For the global market the Note 7 will use Exynos 8890 and for US market it will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and both will come with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. By that specs you will know that it will be snappier and faster than the Galaxy Note 5 last year because this is the standard specs for this year flagship phone but you won't find a crazy 6GB of RAM like the OP3. The microSD make a come back but the removeable battery won't because this year Note 7 still use the the Non-Removable battery but with a bigger 3500 mAh battery that will last longer.

So this is my thought on the Galaxy Note 7. Do you have anything to add? Let me know in the comments.

 Mac, Review, Windows     No comments

The first thing that come to your mind after seeing the design and the name you'll notice that is NOT inspired by the MacBook Air. (I'm Joking)

Xiaomi really take on a MacBook Air this time with their new Mi Notebook Air. It's slimmer than the MacBook Air with all metal unibody design. I really like how it has logoless exterior design and in my opinion this is one of the best looking laptop I've ever seen. The keyboard and the track pad color is also match to body and it's also remind me of the Surface Book.

Mi Notebook Air come with 2 models

This 13.3" model will out perform the MacBook Air especially in the graphic department as it got the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX so that's mean you can play some game on it.

Xiaomi Mi Band 2 Review

 Review     No comments

If you are the fitness guy and shopping for an activity tracker that is not a smart watch with a very budget price u should consider the Xiaomi Mi Band 2. You would be surprise of what this $40 activity tracker can do.

Design
First let's talk about the design, for the first the Mi band spot an OLED display that make it look different from it predecessor. The module color is black and still sit in the silicon band so that's mean you can change the color of the silicon band anytime. In the front it has the OLED display and a capacitive button that look shiny you can tap it to see the information display (we'll get into that later. Xiaomi also claim that the display is also UV coated, scratch resistant and anti-fingerprint . The the silicon band is soft and feel good on the wrist also.

Function
For everyday use the Mi band tracking system is pretty good and accurate with step tracking and the module also detect when you sleep and wake up automatically. The heart rate sensor is also included but sometimes i feel like it's not so reliable but overall is good. The module also has the vibration motor so the mi band can remind you to start making movement when you sit idle for 1 hour. you can also you it as a silent alarm clock that can vibrate to wake you up. The Mi Band 2 also comes with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. so that you don't have to be worry about washing your hand but wouldn't want to swim with it. The battery also last around 2 weeks on a single charge which is great.

Addition Features
Outside tracking the band can also give you notification from a phone call, SMS and other apps too. it can be use as a smart unlock device so that you can unlock your phone without security when you're nearby.

Mi Fit App
To use the app first you'll need to connect the Mi Band to phone via Bluetooth connection. The app itself is simple and easy to use. There 3 sections in the app which are Status is a dashboard for viewing your daily step, heart rates, goal and other information about yourself. The 2nd section is Play is a setting page for the device to recieve notification from phone call or other app. you can also set the silent alarm or you can ask it to remind you when you sitting idle for a long time and there are more feature that you can discover by yourself. The last section is Profile, In this section you can view the device information and configuration to do various things. You also can set your activity goal and weight goal here too.
